JOB SUMMARY
The Child Life Assistant is accountable for assisting in implementing Child Life programming to help normal growth, development and emotional adjustment for pediatric patients in the health care setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Plans, implements and coordinates playroom activity programs based on assessed needs.

Keeps informed of all group visits planned by Community Affairs or Child Life, and helps in providing necessary coordination to ensure needs of patients, families and community groups are met.- Clearly communicates pertinent information and partners with Child Life Specialist to develop, deploy and evaluate plans.
- Serves as an effective representative of the Child Life program to patients, families and visitors, communicating in a courteous and professional way.
- Selects and provides activities (toys, games, crafts) for patients restricted to bed rest or isolation according to assessed needs, interests and capabilities.
- Helps with inventory control by ordering and storing age appropriate supplies, as needed.
- Adheres to infection control and body substance isolation procedures, including consistent sterilization of Child Life equipment.
- Works cooperatively with Child Life volunteers.
- Contributes to accurate department record-keeping.
- Participates in quality assurance plans and activities.

- Must have the ability to relate and communicate effectively with minors.
- Must have the ability to relate professionally and positively and work cooperatively with patients, families, and other employees at all levels.

- Must be able to maintain confidentiality about patient.
- Ability to promote services and programs.

- EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
- EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
